First, soak 1 cup of chana dal in water for 30 minutes. Then, pressure cook it with 2 cups of water, 1 tsp turmeric powder, and salt to taste. Slide

In a pan, heat 2 tbsp ghee and add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 bay leaf, and 2 dried red chillies. Once they splutter, add 1 finely chopped onion and sauté till golden brown. Slide

Next, add 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add 1 chopped tomato and cook till it turns mushy. Slide

Now, add 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder, and 1 tsp garam masala. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes. Slide

Add the cooked dal to the pan and mix well. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Then, add 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp lemon juice for a balance of flavors. Slide

In a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp ghee and add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 bay leaf, and 2 dried red chillies. Once they splutter, add 1/4 cup grated coconut and roast till golden brown. Slide
